The only reason I could possibly come up with would be spousal debt. The spouse without debt would want the entire refund they are allowed without being penalized for the debts of their mate. The IRS and State Government WILL put a Lien on any refund for outstanding federal or state debts. I even heard about a state in the Midwest that did it for parking tickets. I don't recall the state.

With the new rule in effect as of March 2008 allowing a direct 401k rollover to Roth IRA, could you shed some light on this scenario: A couple, both over 60 files jointly and will be earning less income when retired. Currently both are working and earn 100,000. When retired their income will be 46,000. They have 300,000 combined in their 401k and would like to know if it makes financial sense to rollover to a Roth Ira. Now, there are other subtle differences between the types of accounts, like required minimum distribtions, that effect estate planning. This example does not consider this.
You can make a case either way if the government will raise or lower taxes in the future. Since we do not know with certainty, I suggest another option. Rollover 1/2 of your account. Keep some in a pre-tax account (401k) and some in a post tax account (ROTH).

you can check through the state page and if there is a waiting period it is waived for people who are active duty in the military. My fiancee and I have already looked into it for us and I live in Texas right now and he is stationed in California. He is getting ready to deploy as well in feb.

You need to go to the courthouse and fill out the paper work. Then you have to find a minister to marry you. Then you have to get all the paper work done for the military. I've forgotten how much she can do by herself. I know she can get her ID on her own, but it's been over 8 years since I had to do this.

You need to go to the courthouse and fill out the paper work. Then you have to find a minister to marry you. Then you have to get all the paper work done for the military. I've forgotten how much she can do by herself. I know she can get her ID on her own, but it's been over 8 years since I had to do this.

Some guys just want to make small talk and if you are with a group where a guy buys a round of drinks for everyone it would be rude to stand up and say ';I'm married I can not accept this.'; Not every guy in the bar is just some sex maniac trying to get you liquored up.
