There is no minimum amount of time you have to have been married in order to apply for permanent residency, but it does look better to immigration authorities if you麓ve been married for at least a year when you apply.
*Chulapanama is right if she is referring to the amount of time it takes from applying for legal residency to when the immigrant is granted the Green Card. It takes about 3 years on average, about a year for the initial application to be accepted and then 2 years as a conditional permanent resident before applying for the permenent resident card. How long do you have to married to get a green card?
Forever being married will never qualify you for a green card! How long do you have to married to get a green card?
Three years.
You just have to be married, that's all.
Welcome in advance!
If that's the only reason you are getting married then, please note that it is against the law. Its against the law to marry for the express purpose of obtaining a green card. Its considered fraud I think.
After you file the paperwork (based on the fact that your spouse is a US citizen) it will take few months to get the conditional green card. After two years, you may apply to remove the conditions and then it becomes permanent.
It depends on if Big Brother believes you are really married. This is immigration law, you are assumed to be pretending to be married until you prove otherwise, usually in an interview. Some really smart Bureaucrat figured out that it would take a lot of government employees to try to answer the question ';Is this a really married couple?'; ';What is really married?'; Welcome to the land of the free.
Looking at your postings I hope a long, long really long time
