Does anyone know why in Ohio A married man must have his wife permission to have a vasectomy?

Don't you think this is a double standard, because a married woman can get an abortion without her husband or the babies father even being notified. because she has the right to do what she wants with her own body!Does anyone know why in Ohio A married man must have his wife permission to have a vasectomy?
Because someone is ';jerking your chain';. Do not believe in urban legend. About 2/3 of what you hear about vasectomy is just that.... urban legend.

That same question has been asked for just about all 50 states. Just search and you will see, ';Why does a man need his wife's permission in [insert state here]?';.

The Federal HIPPA laws went in effect in the 1980's. It is illegal for them to ask for your spouse's permission. Also it was not required by any state I know of before that.

I had mine over 20 years ago (I was 21). I do not even have children. I lived in the bible belt. Nobody asked for the permission of my former spouse. She would have said no.

They can ask if your wife agrees. They can use that information to refuse you. It is not a law. They are just afraid your wife will come and shoot up the place, or try to sue them or whatever.

Just go to a different doctor if they give you any trouble. You will find one that will give you what you want. I did, and a lot of my friends did. Not all of them did it with their spouses blessing.

Edit: Wrong, if a doctor tells you to get the permission of your spouse, his or her medical license is in serious trouble. You can be compensated as well. I so want to move to Ohio and start suing the pants off some doctors, so I can retire on the proceeds (Federal HIPPA laws).Does anyone know why in Ohio A married man must have his wife permission to have a vasectomy?
I think that everyone should have the right to do what they want with their own bodies; therefore, I think a woman should be allowed to have an abortion without the father's permission, and a man should be allowed a vasectomy without his wife's permission. I think that notification to the other party should be mandatory in both cases, however. A potential father at least deserves to know that the woman he got pregnant had an abortion. It may change how he thinks of her, and impact whether or not he wishes to stay with her. Likewise, a wife deserves to know if her husband gets a vasectomy. She can then make an informed decision as to whether or not she should stay married to him.
Interesting. I was previously unaware of this and will have to give this thought. It is not the kind of opinion one can just throw out without considering all the angles. OH WAIT, that's why we elect LEGISLATORS! lol

On reflection, I think it is a good law. The abortion law is the bad one. Wives should have to have their husbands' consent for an abortion and husbands' should have to have their wives' consent for a vasectomy. It's pro-marriage and in the best interests of children--what laws involving marriage are about.

So, yes, it's a double standard.

Edit: Thanks for setting this straight, Keine. I love getting sucked into urban legend. lol Thing is, it is still interesting analysis about one more challenge to marriage and the notion of ';unity.'; When one spouse wants a child and the other doesn't, this is a deal-killer and people should talk about this BEFORE marriage!
It no different when there are doctors who won't perform a tuba ligation on a single or a married woman for the same reason. So putting abortion in the mix is no comparison to you wanting vasectomy!

Hate to tell you Kinder in some state if a married man has a vasectomy without the wife consent behind his back it can be grounds for a divorce. So, tell your married friends who did one behind their wives back tell them to watch out.
What fool told you that? Neither of you need the others permission.

California is probably the strictest state on that sort of thing. That being said, you do not need her permission here. You only have to be 18. You do not even have to have children.
The same reason a married woman must also obtain the consent of her husband in-order to have a tubal ligation.
That is definitely a double standard and I'm surprised such a law exists!
That is pretty strange, but I believe it. Some states have very weird laws.
Just how it goes in case down the road she wants more.
Yes, that's not right. I'd even say that's a violation of your human rights.
Try getting one if your single!
i know
WHAT??!!!!!
