Why do gay people want to get married so badly?

I'm not homophobic or anything wrong like that, I'm only wondering.Why do gay people want to get married so badly?
For me, it's about two things: 1) being considered an equal in this country and 2) having the same rights afforded to married couples. If my partner gets sick and needs to go into the hospital, as his partner I think that I should be able to visit him without his parents' consent and that I should be able to take a medical leave from work like a hetero couple if it calls for it.Why do gay people want to get married so badly?
What's so strange about wanting to get married and settle down with the person you love and wanting to provide for them. Is it odd to want to be able to be with your partner when they're in the hospital, to make medical decisions for them ? Is it goofy to want to leave your estate to your loved one with as little hassle as possible?

And in some states they won't even let you recognize domestic partnership so thats $500 per person when it should just be only $500

I think I know what you mean. It's more along the lines of, ';Why the hell would ANYONE want to get married?'; As for that, I've got no clue. It looks like it sucks.
Like any other couple they want to ';officiate'; their love for each other - and possibly eventually go through a divorce like countless others, gay or straight.
For the exact same reason straight people want to get married.

well iam not gay but if some one took my right for marrying becasue iam not white or sumthing,,i would want to fight for my rights..
so if u liked guys and u werent paticularly attracted to girls would u get mad if u couldn't marry the guy.
