Is there a minimum amount of ';years married'; to collect retirement benefits when my husband dies?

This is pertaining to his retired Army benefits and his retired Social Security benefits.

Thanks.

We have a small child and I am just worried since he is a much older man if I will be able to support us on his benefits. Do they lower the amount that he is receiving now if he dies?Is there a minimum amount of ';years married'; to collect retirement benefits when my husband dies?
if he has not signed up for the Survivors benefit program his Pension ENDS completely when he dies.

as for his SS, I am pretty sure that there are restrictions on that as well.Is there a minimum amount of ';years married'; to collect retirement benefits when my husband dies?
re your military retirement, are you the person named as being able to collect 100% of his pension?? if you are then the amount [so I understand it via the navy] will NOT drop, so what he gets each month should remain what you get.

I would seriously have the both of you look at what insurance you have, even more so as he is a lot older than you, better to have too much than not enough.
buy an insurance plan for extra money. and your his wife. you and the child will be ok. they may make you wait for his retired age to get his retirement and if they do give it to you the will charge you but, your good.SS no problem. get a check for you and one for the child
You must be married a least 8 years, and he must have put in for SBP

before he reitred, this unpon his death will give you 50% of his retired

pay.
