Can you propose to someone if they are already married but seperating?

my parents are splitting but i want to know if either of them find someone else can they be engaged if they are in middle of divorce?im just curious.Can you propose to someone if they are already married but seperating?

In answer to your question, yes they can get engaged but they cant get married until they are divorced.

Dude, i think it's best to wait for awhile before popping the question. She MIGHT have some feelings, I'm just saying. I'm not 100% positive but I think it's best to wait a awhile.
They can be engaged, sure, because an engagement is not legally binding.

I wouldn't think so...it's kind of ';tacky';....the person they become involved with and potentially marry would always be wondering if they too will be left behind during a split, while their partner accepts or proposes to someone better.

You must accept that people don't always do 'the right thing'. If I 'read' you correctly you said they are 'married but separating' so actually they are still married. There's married, officially separated and divorced. the old norm was to wait until the ink was dry on the divorce decree BEFORE starting to date . . . but here your talking about married people who are dating others to the point that they are getting engaged?!?! They were never even separated no less even filed the paperwork for a divorce. I would think it is tacky to even accept someones proposal if I did not have the paperwork in the courthouse for the divorce with a final date on the books.

You can propose to anyone you want. Married, divorced, separated. You can propose to a rock, if this is what rocks your boat. It's not against the law to propose to anyone or anything.

Sure. ';Engaged'; is not a legal term, it's just a frame of mind, really. You can be engaged without setting a date.
engagement is not a legal contract, therefore it is not regulated by anything. Your parents cannot get married to anyone else, but they can be engaged to whomever they want all they want.
You have just mentioned that 'if they are in the middle of divorce'.It depends on the situation but on normal grounds,they have to wait till the divorce papers are processed.
